Our mission is to spread the message of love, compassion, and understanding through the teachings of Sikhs in America. We want to share their contributions through their history and stories. We can share the stories, spread love, and show how our religion can be impactful. Sikhism emphasizes the oneness of God, the equality of all human beings, and the importance of living a truthful and honest life. Sikhs aim to achieve spiritual enlightenment through meditation on God's name. Additionally, Sikhs are encouraged to engage in selfless service (seva) and contribute to the well-being of society, promoting social justice and equality.
Sikhism, founded by Guru Nanak in the early 16th century in the Indian subcontinent, emerged as a distinct religious tradition promoting equality, devotion to one God, and social justice. The Sikh scripture, Guru Granth Sahib, compiled by the successive Gurus, serves as the central religious text. The Sikh community faced persecution under Mughal rule but later evolved into a martial and sovereign Sikh Empire under leaders like Guru Gobind Singh. Today, Sikhism is a vibrant global religion with followers known for their distinctive identity, including the turban and uncut hair.
At SIKHS FOR AMERICA, we believe in the power of love, forgiveness, and grace. We strive to live out these values daily and hope to inspire others to do the same. We believe everyone has a purpose and a place in this world to make a change and difference. We want to inspire the world to preach three things that ALL humans should do. Kirat Karni (make an honest living), Vand Chakna (selfless service), and Naam Japna (meditate). By doing these actions, we can make a change in the world!
